Dr. Teichman specializes in endourology and interstitial cystitis. His primary interests in endourology relate to kidney stones and laser-stone interactions. Ongoing research has focused on understanding the performance characteristics of optical fibers used for holmium:YAG lithotripsy, and the development of improved optical fibers; parameters of mid-infrared lasers for optimal stone fragmentation; the potential application of femtosecond laser ablation. He has current projects on the basic science of laser lithotripsy in collaboration with biomedical optics researchers at the University of Texas, Austin, and laser fiber testing in collaboration with urologists at the Ohio State University, Columbus. His primary interests in interstitial cystitis relate to clinical diagnosis and presentation of patients, often diagnosed after years of symptoms and multiple misdiagnoses. Recent publications have included the interstitial cystitis and dyspareunia, intravesical medication treatment for interstitial cystitis, and the impact of sex abuse on interstitial cystitis. Dr. Teichman is participating in a multicenter trial for a novel urine diagnostic test for interstitial cystitis.
